[Review] Comparing Dolly Wink Liquid Liner & K-Palette 24 hrs lasting liner ♥

Hi Everyone!

Eyeliner was the first piece of makeup i had ever used and from the first day, i had already instantly fallen in love with them. I first started off with pencil eyeliner because that was the only type that i had access to. I used the Elizabeth Arden pencil eyeliner and it was great, however, like most other types of pencil liners, they smudged quite a bit throughout the course of the day which i assure you, is not a pretty sight. Afterwards i discovered that there was a thing called gel eyeliner and i bought my first Maybelline studio gel eyeliner, which was even easier than the pencil liner to apply but smudged a lot as well.  Finally, after watching Bubzbeauty, I decided to try my last resort, liquid liner. Apparently the K-palette liquid liner was the best selling liner in Japan so i thought why not give it a try! Going though a variety of eyeliners, I can finally say that I've found my HG eyeliner.

Packaging:

There has been many reviews that rave about how well the K-palette liquid liner and the Dolly wink liquid liner performed so i decided to compare to see which one was the best!
As you can see from the photo, the packaging is already extremely different. The K-palette 24hrs lasting liner is in an elegant, high class red and black plastic case whilst the Dolly Wink liner, as usual, is in a cute pink floral design with a black lid and of course a picture of Tsubasa Masuwaka on the front. In my opinion, I like the K-palette design a little more because the black design with silver writing looks really classy and elegant.

Comparing bristles:

Next, I'm going to compare the brush tip of the two eyeliners.

From the pictures, its probably not very clear, but the K-palette bristles is a bit thicker than the Dolly Wink Liquid Liner and a bit sharper and less flared. But besides that, they are both pretty similar in size.

Performance (Swatch)

The K-palette eyeliner is definitely a lot more pigmented than the Dolly Wink even with just one coat, and this is reinforced through a second coat swatch. The K-palette eyeliner also produces a thicker line than the Dolly Wink, which is good if you like your eyeliner thick or winged and the Dolly Wink is more delicate and thinner for precise application of eyeliner if you're looking for a more natural/softer finish or if you are more of a beginner.

After waiting 5 minutes after application of the swatches, I performed the rub test, to see which eyeliner performs the best. As you can see the K-palette eyeliner didn't smudge or smear at all whilst the Dolly Wink Eyeliner, shows some form of smudging on the side.

Whilst running the two eyeliner swatches underneath the water, they stayed in place and did not smudge at all. After I turned off the lap and rubbed it a few times, the K-palette lost a bit of colour but most of it stayed in place whilst the Dolly Wink liner, lost a lot of its colour in the middle and smudged a fair bit as seen in the pictures.

The Verdict :

Packaging:
Dolly Wink: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5
K-Palette: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5

I thought that the Dolly Wink outside packaging was quite pretty, but I'm not a big fan of the white flowers at the top of the box. Also not a big fan of the lilac floral print on the actual product, I think the pink and the lilac don't really go well with each other and washes out the design. I reckon that Dolly Wink's old packaging looked a lot prettier, and I'm pretty sure many people could agree with me. Dolly Wink would definitely do better!
The K-palette box has stayed the same for a really long time. I've bought K-palette like 5 times and I'm still loving the elegant, silvery red colour scheme complimenting the black product packaging. I think that although its very simple, it really brings the product out and looks very pretty by itself! :)

Bristles:
Dolly Wink: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5
K-Palette: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5

Even though both are pretty similar in shape and sizes, I enjoy using a thicker eyeliner, I think it's easier to control and use. The Dolly Wink gives a similar result but since its thinner, I have to spend more time trying to make my line thicker, which is time consuming if I'm in a rush.

Performance:
Dolly Wink: ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5
K-Palette: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5

After reading so many reviews about how amazing the Dolly Wink liquid liner was, I'm actually quite disappointed with it's performance. Dolly Winks liquid liner smudged straight away just by rubbing it lightly and it's poor performance was demonstrated though the water rubbing test, where almost half of it disappeared after rubbing it whilst it was wet. It's certainly not water proof, and for people who have oily eyelids like me and people who accidently rub their eyes during the day, this is definitely not the eyeliner that you'd want to look for. The K-palette on the other hand survived all tests and remained quite perfect all the way til the end and after wearing this for around 3 years, I found that it can last up to 8 hrs a day before showing tiny signs of smearing on the corner of the eyes, but only very minimal.
I have to say that the K-palette is also definitely more pigmented than the Dolly Wink which is great because you don't need to use as much product, therefore, it can last you longer.

Price:
Dolly Wink: ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5
K-Palette: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ / 5

In my opinion, I consider these eyeliners as quite on the pricey side. Especially the Dolly Wink Eyeliner, which has pretty poor performance costed me around $20 from Sasa.com. On the other hand, the K-palette eyeliner is not cheap either, but for the performance, I wouldn't mind spending a bit more on this product because it is definitely my HG liquid liner so far. It costs around $15-$16 on Sasa.

I hope you all enjoyed this post.

  2. I think this one from K-Palette is the answer to my hooded eyelids (that turns any eyeliner into smudged eyeshadow by midday). :D Thanks for this very detailed review!

  12. Again, you did such an amazing review! It's always been a struggle for me to find the perfect eyeliner, I've tried gel eyeliner and liquid.. And the one I currently use doesn't satisfy me yet at 100%. Therefore, after reading your review, I reallyyy wanted to buy that eyeliner, but unfortunately, they don't sell it in my country :( anyway, I guess, the search for the perfect eyeliner continues for me :P

  19. Nice comparisons! I have used Dolly Wink liquid liner for years and love it. Despite it's smudging and smearing, even though the product claims to be water resistant and sweatproof, I have never really had an issue with it smudging while wearing it. I also do not touch my face much so maybe this doesn't apply to me lol. Great review! I'll definitely need to give the K-Palette liner a go!
